Student Finance & Budgeting

This section provides information for students about financing their studies and links of where to find the most up to date information.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we recommend regularly checking the latest Government updates relating to Student Finance.

Anyone can afford to go to university, no matter their circumstances, and there is a range of financial help available. You can apply for a Student Loan from the government to pay for your tuition fees, and a Maintenance Loan to help with your living costs at university. Living costs can include rent, bills, food and nights out for example – all these things and more are what the Maintenance Loan is there to help you pay for. There are also scholarships and bursaries available. These provide financial support which you do not have to repay. Details of Leeds Conservatoire’s offer can be found on our Fees and Funding page below.

Instrument Grants & Funding

  • Universal Music Sound Foundation - if you are a student in full-time education, looking for funding towards the cost of musical instruments and/or equipment.
  • Benslow Music Instrument Loan Scheme - perfect for young instrumentalists looking for a high-quality instrument to loan, or for instrument funding help.
  • Music For All - for individuals needing financial support for music lessons.
  • DaDa -the Dance and Drama Awards (DaDas) offer annual scholarships to exceptionally talented performing arts students between the ages of 16-23 who are hoping to study on an acting, musical theatre, dance or drama course.
  • Cherubim Music Trust - for musicians aged 15 - 25 who may wish to take out a high-quality instrument on loan.
  • National Youth Arts Trust - bursaries of up to £1000 for talented people aged 15 - 25, who can't afford opportunities to access the arts.

Fees and Funding at Leeds Conservatoire


Our friendly Student Support team can help provide you with support on how student finance works, offer budgeting advice and can discuss what funding you might be eligible for. We have removed audition fees for all courses in order to improve the accessibility of conservatoire training for prospective students from all backgrounds and we also offer an audition travel costs bursary for applicants from low-income households.
