Course Studied:

BA (Hons) Music (Production)

Year of Graduation: 2023

Straight from DORK's 2023 'Hype List', Mollie Coddled (she/her) is an Alt-Pop making indie queen from Yorkshire. Mollie’s music shares views of Gen-Z society through a dreamy and fun, sonic lens.

BA (Hons) Music (Production)

When did you first start pursuing your career and what inspired you to do so?

I started pursuing music as a career when I was in college (16-18), I was in love with music growing up and with it being the only thing I’m passionate about, it was the only thing I could see myself doing as a career! I wanted to be able to share my stories with people going through similar experiences and music was a way I could get that out there!
Mollie Coddled - CONNECTIONS

How important were the connections you made during your studies?

Being at the Conservatoire made me a part of the Indie music scene in Leeds which is something I’m so grateful for; being able to grow a network of like-minded people who all take music as seriously as you is so great to be around because you really push yourself to keep growing!

What's coming up next for you in terms of projects or releases?

I just released a new song called ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ which is about taking back your power from people who don’t treat you as well as they should :) The music video is inspired by Scott Pilgrim vs The World (which was super fun to make!)

Mollie Coddled - DESCRIBE SOUND

How would you describe your sound?

The music I make is Indie Pop/Dreampop! Musically, a mix of analogue synths and guitars topped with loads of vocal stacks and ear candy with the lyrical focus on the inner dialogue and feeling different/misunderstood!

Mollie Coddled - IMPORTANT LESSON

What was the most important lesson you learned during your time in Leeds?

Be kind and meet as many people as possible! Sounds cringy but knowing people and being friends with other musicians brings you opportunities - the other hand being if you don’t make an effort to network, you won’t get anywhere really because you won’t have any connections to do so.

What advice would you give to a prospective student thinking of applying to your course?

Be prepared to put in immense hours and lots of passion, if you want to do well and come out of the course having learned loads and gained loads of new experiences, you need to put ALL of your effort in and really put yourself out there, grab every opportunity they throw at you!
