Careers & Employability

We can help you with your career planning and your personal and professional development. We offer an impartial and holistic service, understanding that often factors external to your life at the conservatoire may influence your decision making and future plans.

How we can help

We offer one-to-one consultations giving you the opportunity, for example, to discuss your options on graduation including where to find work and applying for further study, building a portfolio career, self-promotion, CV and application support and finding part-time work. We also provide access to up-to-date information on career related opportunities, music industry news and views through  “Accelerando” the Careers and Employability blog.

How do I arrange to see a careers adviser?

We have an “open door” policy which means you can call to see us without an appointment and if we are free we will try to answer your enquiry there and then. Alternatively you can make an appointment to see us by calling in or by emailing us. During term–time we will usually be able to see you within two working days of your request, or at a time of your choosing.

Where does the Careers and Employability Service advertise jobs?

All jobs and opportunities are advertised on the conservatoire’s online jobs and opportunities board. We may also send students an email to inform them of opportunities that may be of interest.

What links does the Careers and Employability Service have with external organisations?

The Careers and Employability Service continues to develop relationships with both local and national employers and music industry organisations. Visiting speakers have recently given presentations and run workshops about community education, teaching, legal matters for musicians and music therapy.

How can you help me with my CV?

We offer one-to-one CV consultations, CV workshops and seminars, and also provide online resources to help you promote yourself effectively through your CV.
