Kamran Mohammed - BA (Hons) Acting

Kamran Mohammed is a first-year student on the Acting course. After studying at drama school, Kamran has thrown himself into his studies here at Leeds Conservatoire.

What made you choose Leeds Conservatoire?

I think the North has been lacking in terms of acting training for so long and I was so excited to hear about the course. As soon as I met Erin I could tell that her passion and drive would take the course to the forefront of actor training in the country and I know, for sure, that in the future that's exactly where Leeds Conservatoire will be.

Has anything been totally different to what you expected when you started at Leeds Conservatoire?

The standard of my peers, I think everyone assumes that when you start at drama school everyone is at the same level. I can now genuinely say that everyone on the course brings something completely different to the table. It helps you grow so quickly into a much better performer - and that's without the incredible training even thrown into the equation!

What is the most mind blowing thing you've learned so far at Leeds Conservatoire?

That failing and falling flat on your face is a safe thing to do in the environment that you'll be thrown into.

What projects / performances have you worked on so far in your first year?

Within the first few weeks we did our own festival of Dionysus - which was incredible. To be thrown into devising your own work so soon into your training makes you shake off any inhibitions you had going into it - it was such a great learning curve.

What sort of accommodation are you living in? What advice would you give to new students about accommodation?

I live in Hepworth Lodge at the other side of the city - I highly recommend booking your accommodation as soon as you have made a decision and avoid making the mistake that did and leaving it until the last minute. It's a good job I enjoy walking, let me tell you!

What do you get up to outside of studying?

At the moment; writing, reading and playing my guitar. There's not much else to do right now - however as soon as all this is over I'm sure I'll be doing something new in the city every single night.

What is the best thing about living and studying in Leeds?

The vibrancy of the city, the location and the fact that so many opportunities arise within it in terms of the performing arts.

What advice would you give to a new student about to start at Leeds Conservatoire in September?

Throw yourself into everything, don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself and most importantly look after yourself whilst doing it.

How would you describe your experience at Leeds Conservatoire so far in three words?

Fan-bloody-tastic
