Students have access to our studios until late during term-time.
Production students are able to book studios and mixing rooms up to 2 weeks in advance.
Performance students can advertise for producers to record them.
Professional recording suites
We have 6 professional recording studios, each with a mixing console.
Consoles
The conservatoire has four Audient ASP8024 mixing consoles, one ASP4816 console and one SSL 4000G.
Live rooms
Each control room has at least one live room attached to them. They differ in size, from the larger rooms like 113, where a band can separate its musicians and have them perform in different corners of the room, to the smaller rooms where one or two musicians can perform. You’ll learn which rooms are best for different instruments, and how changing the position in the room can produce different results.

Music Production pathway students can book the studios up to 2 weeks in advance.
Mixing Studios
The conservatoire has 7 various mixing rooms.
These rooms offer you the chance to listen back to your recordings and tweak the sound using a range of outboard effects.
Different rooms have different acoustics and different speakers, so you can hear your mix in various environments and adjust it accordingly.
Overdubbing
Some of the mixing studios have small booths attached to them, ideal for capturing the vocals of your nearly finished track, or adding an extra guitar track to your mix.
Mixing for film
One of our studios has a 5.1 surround sound setup and an HD projector, making it perfect for cueing up your sound effects and music with film footage.
Outboard equipment
To get the best out of your recordings, you need the best equipment to help you.
Software & A/D Conversion
Each studio has a Mac running Pro Tools 12 and Logic X, (including 2 Pro Tools HD studios) and has a Lynx Aurora converter to keep your recordings sound clean all the way from analogue to digital.
Preamps & Effects
The outboard varies from room to room, however you will find industry standard equipment such as:

- Neve 8803 Dual EQ
- Empirical Labs Distressor
- Earthworks 1024 ZDT Preamps
- Bricasti M7 Reverb
- API 2500 Compressor
Why do we have different preamps/effects?
We encourage all Production students to experiment with the equipment and find the sound they want. The different brands you have access to will help you learn which piece of equipment to use in different situations, and will broaden your knowledge in the music technology world.
The Studio Technicians will help with any questions, problems or queries that you encounter on your way.
