Summer Academy: Performance

Register your interest

Owing to the situation regarding Covid-19, we are looking to replace this on-site Summer School with online content in order to safeguard our visitors, staff and students.

We are currently investigating how we can create an alternative summer school experience for interested students. Please register your interest via the form on this page, and we will keep you updated when we have further details.

Build your confidence and skills, meet and work with like-minded musicians and experience a taste of conservatoire education at our Summer Academy.

Students who complete the Summer Academy and go on to successfully apply to an undergraduate course at Leeds College of Music will receive a reduction of 8 UCAS tariff points in the UCAS tariff points required for entry*.

* On successful assessment and completion of the course.

About the course

This course provides an opportunity to meet and work with other like-minded musicians, with time built in during the evenings for social activities for residential students. Lunch will be provided for all students with additional breakfast and evening meal provision for those on the residential course.

It may be necessary to limit numbers of popular instruments to ensure there is a suitable balance in ensembles and bands. Please do not let this put you off applying for this Summer School, but we do advise applying early.

Course pre-requisites

We recommend that students attending this Summer School pathway have a working knowledge of music theory, and a performance standard on their instrument of grade 6 (or above).

Summer Academy pathways

As well as this performance strand, there are two other available Summer Academy pathways to choose from in Musical Theatre and in Music Production.

Feedback from previous participants

"The group has really inspired me to continue performing and composing and putting myself in situations I wouldn't usually put myself into - so thank you so much for this experience, I really can't express how thankful I am"

"A massive thank you to all organisers and helpers for this week! I honestly had the best time and felt so at home. I look forward to applying to LCoM come December time for the songwriting course, and feel much more confident in my ability to succeed thanks to this summer school :)"

"The range of styles and techniques we have learnt in general throughout this week has been very inspiring for me, and makes me want to work harder as a musician"

"I thoroughly enjoyed the Folk Workshop as it enabled me to rediscover my love for folk music and to play the mandolin/mandola for the first time in over a year. It has inspired me to seek out more folk artists to listen to as well as inspiring me to attempt to compose more folk music in the future."
