We want to ensure that no one turns down a place on the Summer Academy due to the cost.

We have a bursary fund that supports students and their families dependent on their situation.

We have a fixed amount allocated for bursaries in our budget and we will look at each application on a case by case basis. We allocate partial bursaries wherever possible, totalling a percentage of the fee.

Bursary levels for 2021:

  • Household income under £16,190 (the level at which you receive free prescriptions and free school meals) = full bursary where possible
  • Household income between £16,190 and £42,875 = partial bursary where possible

Learning in the Digital Space

Summer Academy students will have access to Leeds Conservatoire's virtual learning environment SPACE giving students access to interactive resources and the ability to upload a mixture of videos and recordings.

All lessons will be delivered via Zoom so students can discuss new topics and concepts with their tutors and peers, as well as having individual time to implement new topics into their own practice.

You do not need any advanced software to attend this course, although some parts may require audio/video recording. This can be done on a mobile device, tablet or any other recording software you have access to.

We are always here to support so please get in touch by emailing or by viewing the Online Learning website page if you have any questions.

Course pre-requisites

We recommend that students attending this Summer School pathway have a working knowledge of music theory, and a performance standard on their instrument of grade 6 (or above).

Summer Academy pathways

As well as this performance strand, there are two other available Summer Academy pathways to choose from in Musical Theatre and in Music Production. All three strands will run on the same dates of Monday 2 - Friday 6 August 2021.

Feedback from previous participants

"The group has really inspired me to continue performing and composing and putting myself in situations I wouldn't usually put myself into - so thank you so much for this experience, I really can't express how thankful I am"

"A massive thank you to all organisers and helpers for this week! I honestly had the best time and felt so at home. I look forward to applying to Leeds Conservatoire come December time for the songwriting course, and feel much more confident in my ability to succeed thanks to this summer school :)"

"The range of styles and techniques we have learnt in general throughout this week has been very inspiring for me, and makes me want to work harder as a musician"

"I thoroughly enjoyed the Folk Workshop as it enabled me to rediscover my love for folk music and to play the mandolin/mandola for the first time in over a year. It has inspired me to seek out more folk artists to listen to as well as inspiring me to attempt to compose more folk music in the future."
