Alumni Discount
A discount of 10% is available to students who have completed an undergraduate degree at Leeds College of Music and who subsequently proceed to the MA Music.

Other course costs

Further costs which you may need to budget for, include books, stationery, printing, binding, storage devices for backing up work, instrument maintenance/insurance and general subsistence on trips and visits.

Student Loans for Masters Courses

Student Loans for Masters level study are available for many UK and EU applicants.

England / EU

Funding: Non-income assessed Masters loan of up to £11,222 paid to student.

Repayment: Repay at 6% of income above the threshold- currently £21,000.

Funding: Up to £17,000 as a combination of grant and loan.

Income requirements: Income below £18,370-max grant =£6885 + loan=£10,115.

Repayment: Repay at 6% of income above the threshold- currently £21,000.

Northern Ireland

Funding: Non-income assessed fee loan of up to £5,500 paid to university.

Repayment: Repay at 9% of income above the threshold – currently £18,935.

Funding: Non-income assessed fee loan of up to £5,500 paid to university & ML of up to £4,500.

Repayment: Repay at 9% of income above the threshold – currently £18,330.

  • The residence requirements are complex – please read the criteria before applying. 
  • Applicants must be aged under 60 on 1 September in the year of entry. 
  • The loans are available for the full time MA only  (not PG Dip) 
  • The loans are not be available to those who already hold an equivalent level qualification 
  • If you had an Undergraduate loan you should use the same Customer Reference Number. You will need your passport number, National Insurance number, and bank account details.
Leeds College of Music Postgraduate Bursary

Home students who have an offer of a place on the MA course may apply for a cash bursary of £1,000 to help towards study and living costs, for applicants from the lowest income households. There are 10 bursaries available and applicants must apply by 30th June for 2020 entry.

Please print and complete the attached application form and return it with evidence, as specified on the form.

Scholarships and other sources of funding

Leverhulme Trust Arts Scholarship

Four scholarships of £10,000 are available annually to UK applicants to cover the full tuition fees for the MA course, for those who are in financial need and who can demonstrate outstanding potential as part of the standard application process.

Applications are now closed for 2020 entry. Four scholarships will be available for 2021 entry. 

Help Musicians UK – Postgraduate Pop Awards 2020

Applicants can apply directly to Help Musicians for financial support, for performance related studies. The average amount awarded is £2,780 and applicants are assessed according to financial need, musical potential, and ability to sustain a career. Applicants must be UK residents for at least 3 years prior to application. The closing date is 25th May 2020

The Countess of Munster Musical Trust

Postgraduate applicants can apply for awards from £2,000 to £4,000. This is open to classical and jazz performers, and composers.

Yorkshire Ladies Council of Education Award

Female postgraduate students who are eligible to pay Home fees can apply for an award directly to this local charity to help with study costs.

Other Funding Sources

The following websites have links and search directories for other sources of funding according to your specific criteria. Note that most charities and grant making trusts expect you to apply very early and in many cases to audition. Applications for most awards are usually very competitive and you are advised to apply early.
