Tuition fees stated are provisional and subject to approval by the Leeds College of Music Board in March 2019.

Alumni Discount
A discount of 10% is available to students who have completed an undergraduate degree at Leeds College of Music and who subsequently proceed to the MMus Creative Musician.

Other course costs

Further costs which you may need to budget for, include books, stationery, printing, binding, storage devices for backing up work, instrument maintenance/insurance and general subsistence on trips and visits.

Student Loans for Masters Courses

Student Loans for Masters level study are available for many UK and EU applicants.

Domicile Funding Available Repayment System Further Information

England / EU

Non-means tested loan for course and/or living costs - maximum £10,906 - Paid direct to student in 3 instalments.

Repay at 6% of income over the threshold - currently £21,000.

Interest rate = RPI plus 3%.


Non-means tested loan for course and/or living costs - maximum £13,000 - Paid direct to student in 3 instalments.

Repay at 6% of income over the threshold - currently £21,000.

Interest rate = RPI plus 3%.

Northern Ireland

Tuition fee loan - maximum £5,500 paid direct to conservatoire.

Repay at 9% of income over the threshold - currently £17,775.

Interest rate = RPI.


Tuition fee loan - maximum £5,500 paid direct to conservatoire.

Maintenance - maximum £4,500.

Repay at 9% of income over the threshold - currently £17,775.

Interest rate = RPI - write off after 35 years.

  • The residence requirements are complex – please read the criteria before applying. 
  • Applicants must be aged under 60 on 1 September in the year of entry. 
  • The loans are available for the full time MMus only  (not PG Dip) 
  • The loans are not be available to those who already hold an equivalent level qualification 
  • If you had an Undergraduate loan you should use the same Customer Reference Number. You will need your passport number, National Insurance number, and bank account details.
Leeds College of Music Postgraduate Bursary

Home students who have an offer of a place on the MMus course may apply for a cash bursary of £1,000 to help towards study and living costs. There are 10 bursaries available and applicants must apply by 30th June 2019. Priority is given to applicants from the lowest income households.

Scholarships and other sources of funding

Leverhulme Trust Arts Scholarship

Four scholarships of £10,000 are available to UK applicants to cover the full tuition fees for the MMus course, for those who are in financial need and who can demonstrate outstanding potential as part of the standard application process.

Applications for 2019/20 have now closed. We will have four scholarships available for applicants interested in studying the MMus course in 2020/21 and the application process will open in 2020.

Help Musicians UK – Postgraduate Awards 2019

Prospective students can apply directly to Help Musicians for financial support. The amount awarded is generally between £1,000 and £5,000, and applicants are assessed according to financial need, musical potential, and ability to sustain a career. Applicants must be UK residents for at least 3 years prior to application.

The application process will open as follows:

  • 2nd January 2019 for one month, for the following disciplines: Brass, Guitar, Harp, Historical performance, Jazz, Lower Strings, Percussion, Piano, Piano accompaniment, Upper strings, Voice, Woodwind.
  • 26th April 2019 for one month, for students studying the following: Musical Theatre, Opera, Popular Music, Repetiteur. Auditions will be held in April or June.

The Countess of Munster Musical Trust

Postgraduate students can apply for awards from £2,000 to £5,000 between 1st January to 10th February 2019.

This is open to all genres apart from Popular, and Musical Theatre.

Yorkshire Ladies Council of Education Award

Female postgraduate students who are eligible to pay Home fees can apply for an award of £250 to help with study costs.

Note that most charities and grant making trusts expect you to apply very early and in many cases to audition. Applications for most awards are usually very competitive and you are advised to apply early.
