LJC at the Corn Exchange Celebration

14 May 2022

On Saturday 14 May two Leeds Junior Conservatoire bands played at the Corn Exchange for the ‘Public Realm Celebration Event’

The family-friendly event, held by Leeds City Council celebrated the completion of the pedestrianised open space outside the historic Corn Exchange and the wider £25m highways improvements project. The day was funded by the council and Corn Exchange owner Rushbond plc, with added organisational support coming from contractor John Sisk & Son Ltd.

The soundcheck

Two LJC bands joined the line-up of entertainment which spanned the whole day, featuring music, dance, magic and more. We treated early morning shoppers outside the Corn Exchange to some live music as part of the soundcheck.

At the event, each band performed songs they have been working on throughout the past term on a Saturday at the conservatoire with their tutor Rob Crisp.  A big part of developing your skill as a musician is playing to different audiences and Rob said:

This is an excellent opportunity for our young people to perform in front of their community

The performances were a great success, enjoyed by both the students and audience in the city centre sunshine. There were  lots of other events too including Leeds Youth Opera, Foxwood Panyard, bhangra and breakdance performances, LJC student Harry Brown said:

To play in front of such a wide varying and appreciative audience was such an inspiration

We are very proud of our students who took part. Congratulations to David, Harry, Joe, Lloyd, Nathan, Oliver, Phoenix, Sam, Sammy, Winnie and Zack. They were fabulous ambassadors for young people and LJC.
