About the ensemble

Using cutting edge arrangements the band will consist of existing LCoM conservatoire students alongside up and coming young musicians who show great potential. The ensemble provides an opportunity to bring together the best of the best.  In the second semester, the band will also be joined by alumni of LCoM who are working professionally in the music business.

In its debut year, the band had the opportunity to perform to a full house at Seven Arts Jazz in Leeds.

The band will rehearse on Saturday afternoons at Leeds College of Music on the following dates:

Semester 1: 7 October – 9 December 2017; 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Semester 2: 27 January – 24 March 2017; 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Performance dates TBC

Through the audition process we are excited about reaching out to the younger jazz community and bringing together musicians who are passionate about improvising. Whilst places will be limited, this is a chance to connect with you, so please apply for an audition if you are interested – it might lead to other things.

We are looking for talented musicians up to the age of 18 to join this project.  We would expect to receive applications from students aged 14+, although if you are younger and of a high standard on your instrument, please do apply.

Auditions will be held on Saturday 16 September 2017 between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.  Applications must be received by 12pm on Thursday 14 September 2017.  There is no audition fee.

Auditionees will be asked to play as part of a small ensemble along with a rhythm section of LCoM students.  Rhythm section auditionees will play as part of a rhythm section.  Music will be provided to read, including a chord progression to improvise over.
