Leeds College of Music, part of the Leeds City College Group, has been a leading independent provider of music Further Education since 1993, with graduates including John Newman, Badly Drawn Boy, The Marmozets and Jimmi Naylor and Oliver Main of The Pigeon Detectives. However, the conservatoire’s unique relationship with Leeds City College means that it is now in a position to hand over delivery of its BTEC courses to the established and high-performing Further Education institution.

Teaching of the BTEC courses will commence at Leeds City College in September 2018, a move that will put learners at the heart of the Creative Arts Faculty, studying alongside performing arts, media and art and design students. The faculty currently has around 1,000 students and and will be based at the College’s new Eastgate development, which will contain dedicated music and music technology facilities.

It is expected that this new campus, situated metres from Leeds College of Music on Quarry Hill, will be open for Further Education music and music technology students from September 2019. Between September 2018 and July 2019, Leeds City College will be ensuring that all FE music and music technology students have access to fit-for-purpose facilities and that the changeover is managed with as little disruption as possible.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma students enrolling in 2017 will apply to Leeds College of Music and spend their first year at the conservatoire, followed by a second year at Leeds City College. Students wishing to start in September 2018, or later, will apply directly to Leeds City College.
The conservatoire’s Further Education staff will join Leeds City College as part of the move, ensuring consistency for learners, as well as continued access to expert tuition.

Leeds College of Music will continue to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, complemented by bespoke short courses and training for young musicians, at their award-winning Quarry Hill campus.
