Paul Wilkinson lectures in piano and composition at Leeds Conservatoire. He is a pianist, composer, and teacher specialising in Jazz.

Paul was runner-up in the Perrier Jazz Musician of the Year Awards in 1999, and earned his MMus from Leeds Conservatoire in 2002. He has published an extensive range of piano tuition books for students at all levels, and released over ten albums.

As a composer and performer, Paul is active on both sides of the Atlantic.

2011 saw a collaborative first in which Paul co-wrote a children’s musical with his wife, Sarah. ‘Back to Normal’ (which follows a group of young friends on a seaside trip with a difference) premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London's West End, and is now performed widely by schools and youth theatres. In March 2014, Paul premiered a new work specifically written for the Airedale Symphony Orchestra – a leading community orchestra from Paul’s home region in Yorkshire.

Paul has composed a wide range of solo, ensemble and choral works, and his latest symphony premiered in New York in 2014, where he is also one of ten international advisers with the New York Classical Music society.

Recent work/performances:

  •  About to release an album on vinyl called 'Choice' Solo piano improvisations and he is currently touring the UK including the Isle Of Man and London performing solo piano improvisation concerts.
  • Released an album with the British guitarist Sam Dunn (Alumni) called 'Open House’ and has written some new orchestral pieces which will receive performances next year.
  • The New York classical guitarist Stanley Alexandrowicz has been performing a piece he commissioned from Paul across the USA and Europe called "A Walk On Fort Island'.
  • Completed the following compositions: Piano Sonata No.3. Cello Concerto, Piano Concerto. Currently working on a 2nd Symphony.
  • The New York concert pianist Lynn Czae has been performing his 24 Preludes for solo piano on her recent world tours.

Paul has written education books on playing the piano which are now available from Boosey & Hawkes.
