Senior Lecturer in Saxophone

Saxophonist Sarah Markham is in great demand throughout the UK, as well as internationally, having performed throughout Europe, America, Canada, and the Far East. She has broadcast live on Radio 3 and Classic FM radio, performed at the last six World Saxophone Congresses, and has commissioned and premièred major new works for saxophone and piano, saxophone quartet, and saxophone ensemble. To date Sarah has released seven CDs of solo and chamber music including "Run, Sing, Fly" on the Saxophone Classics label,“Saxophone Recital” and “James Rae Sonatinas for Saxophone” on the Prologue label, and “Simply Four Saxophones” by the Adelphi Saxophone Quartet on the EMI label. Sarah is Artistic Director of the record label Saxophone Classics.

Sarah graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Degree and Professional Performer’s Diploma (with Distinction), and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA with a Master in Music Degree, winning scholarships from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Sir James Caird Trust. Sarah was the wind section winner of the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition and the Park Lane Group.

As a chamber musician, Sarah works regularly with pianist Paul Turner, the Northern Saxophone Quartet, Music of Renown Ensemble (MORE), and Equinox. She regularly directs several ensembles and is in demand as a clinician throughout the UK. Sarah is Musical Director of the Yorkshire Saxophone Choir. With a busy teaching schedule, Sarah is visiting saxophone tutor at the Royal College of Music junior department, Leeds College of Music, and the universities of Huddersfield, Sheffield, and York.

Sarah is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a Vandoren Performing Artist.
