Linda Jankowska is a versatile violinist specialising in contemporary music. Educated in her native Poland with Marcin Baranowski, she later studied with Christoph Poppen in Munich, and Jan Repko in Manchester. Linda was a member of Lucerne Festival Academy and took part in the International Ensemble Modern Academy. In the recent years she has also worked with Ensemble Interface, collaborated on a number of new music works, recorded for Another Timbre, as well as participated in interdisciplinary projects (New Movement Collective ‘Casting Traces‘, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui ‘Sutra’).
Linda is a founding member of Distractfold Ensemble - a young and exciting ensemble that are establishing themselves as a strong, fresh, and daring voice in the UK music community. The group specializes in instrumental, acousmatic, and hybrid music of the 21st century, written by composers of this new generation. Distractfold performs worldwide and has worked with composers at Harvard University, Brunel University, University of Huddersfield, Ithaca College (US). It is also the first British ensemble to be awarded the prestigious Kranichstein Price for Interpretation at the International Summer Courses in Darmstadt (2014).
In October 2014 Linda started working towards a PhD in contemporary music performance at the University of Huddersfield.
