Dane Chalfin

Principal Lecturer in Performance and Artistry

Dane Chalfin is Principal Lecturer in Performance and Artistry at Leeds College of Music where he draws on his broad experience in many genres of music, live performance, theatre, visual art and styling to help students craft bold, meaningful, realised versions of their performance concepts.

One of the UK's leading vocal and performance coaches, Dane's clients have included charting bands/artists like Hurts, Delphic, Courtney Love, The Whip, Wu Lyf, Embrace and Everything Everything; performers like Peter Kay, Justin Lee Collins and Claire Sweeney; West End and major productions of Rock of Ages, The Producers and Mamma Mia; and record labels including Sony, Columbia, Universal and many independents. Dane also held the only official NHS appointment for a vocal coach rehabilitating injured professional singers as part of a multidisciplinary voice clinic.

Dane has also devised and directed musical, absurdist and multimedia theatre productions in venues like Liverpool’s Paul McCartney Auditorium and Salford’s The Lowry, as well as many site-specific performance installations from Brighton to Manchester.

Dane trained at several specialist institutions including the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts where he triple-majored in Classical Music (oboe), Theatre and Musical Theatre. He went on to study Theatre at Webster Conservatoire in St. Louis and then studied Theatre and Visual Art at University of Brighton.  He self-funded his education by working in high fashion sales and personal styling for brands including Versace and Vivienne Westwood.
