Al Cherry

Lecturer in Pop

Al is an active freelance guitarist and tutor, specializing in Pop, Blues, Jazz, Rock, Soul, Funk and Country. He has many years experience of live and studio work, has made numerous TV appearances, and has toured Europe, America and Japan with a variety of bands.

Current projects include Rumer, Gwyneth Herbert, Paloma Faith, Carleen Anderson, Natalie Williams, Marti Pellow, Guy Barker, Lisa Stansfield. He is also a frequent performer at Ronnie Scott's and other leading London venues. 

Following a scholarship awarded by Fender, he went on to gain a first class Honours degree in Music from Guildhall in 1998. He also has several years experience of playing in West End musicals, including Rent, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Blood Brothers.

As an educator, he has over 20 years' experience of music tuition, and has taught guitar and general musicianship across all ages.

He has also performed with Cat Stevens, Paul Young, Percy Sledge, Deodato, Sharleen Spiteri, Eska, Beverley Knight, James Taylor Quartet, Kid Creole, Matthew Herbert, Talc, Emilia Mitiku, The Sound Stylistics, The Coalminers, Earl Thomas, Darryl Jones (Rolling Stones), Albert Lee, Byron Wallen, Gloria Scott, and Katherine Jenkins.
