It is with great pleasure that we invite back Yorkshire-born Rowan Pierce to Leeds Lieder. Rowan gave a standout performance, as the representative from London’s Royal College of Music, during the 2015 Day of Song Masterclass with Carolyn Sampson. Today marks her Festival début, for which she will be partnered by the legendary Roger Vignoles.
They will give the world première of the 2017 LL Festival commission, Away, by Iain Bell, a cycle that explores the theme of journeying in its many forms. Taking the spiritual and mercurial texts of Rabindranath Tagore, Bell has woven a cycle of magical and haunting colours. Around this cycle Pierce and Vignoles have programmed works that juxtapose and compliment Bell’s: a magical flight to imagined nations, exotic locations and lost lands.
