The Centre for Jazz Studies UK was asked to take over the management of the UK’s Jazz Research Network (JRN) from Jazz Services in 2006 and is the lead institution in developing the infrastructure for the network, supporting jazz scholarship across the UK.
The Jazz Research Network aims to bring together all those interested in jazz research and those who have ongoing projects. The group has begun to develop a strategy for spreading information about archival sources and research data, and for establishing a register of current research.
Over the years, some of the most important historical and discographical research on jazz has been carried out in Britain - for example John Chilton’s series of books on major figures or Brian Rust’s discographies of early recordings. It is the intention of the jazz research network to develop and encourage this work, and it is emphasised that anyone with a serious interest- not just academics- is welcome to get involved.
