Leeds College of Music is a unique environment for music research and study. It is the only institution of its kind where there is such diversity of curriculum in terms of musical genre (Classical, Popular, Jazz and Music Production), practice (composition, performance and musicology) and the application of practice (pedagogy and community music).
Research lies at the centre of College activities, and supports a wide range of initiatives. The College’s academic staff represent a broad range of specialisms, and have international reputations for their work as performers, composers, musicologists and educational consultants.
The College’s international reputation in the fields of performance, music technology, and composition is underpinned by the research activities of its staff. Current research specialisms of Leeds College of Music staff include electro-acoustic composition, improvisation, music pedagogy, twentieth century musicology, analysis, composition and community music.
Enterprise & Knowledge Transfer Unit
The vision for enterprise & knowledge transfer at the College is to support students and early career musicians in the Yorkshire region through engagement with music business and industry practitioners. We aim to achieve this vision through curricular and extra-curricular career development support along with increased levels of institutional engagement with the regional creative industries sector and collaborative work with a range of regional stakeholders.
We offer a distinct and imaginative programme of enterprise events designed to enable students to leave College with the invaluable skills needed to gain employment in the music industry. We are a leader in our field and as such offer consultancy to similar conservatoires developing across the world.
