Studio session meets live performance, the Live Lounge is a biannual showcase of student talent on our Pop and Production degree pathways.
Artists perform in the recording studio and are interviewed between tracks, while producers and sound engineers live-master the sound. Meanwhile, an AV crew captures the proceedings on film, and live-streams the event on the web – and into a packed auditorium upstairs.
In this video, Live Lounge director and Production pathway leader, Craig Golding, and AV Technician, Mark Rogers, talk about the vision behind the Live Lounge and the challenges it presents.
The bands playing in the video are Blue Laurel – comprising Pop students George Paris, Will de Vries, and Matty Byrne, and Production student Rich Beet; and Campfires – featuring Combined (Pop/Production) student Chris Milnes and Pop student Ashley Squires.
Pop pathway leader, Danny Cope, says: "This is a unique and vital experience for our students. They get to record and perform live in the studio, in front of a big audience – who are watching from an auditorium and on the internet. All the while, the producers are working frantically to make it happen. It's a logistical odyssey, but they really nail it."
