Biography

Lucia Walsh-Hughes is a highly passionate classical soprano from East Yorkshire, currently studying at Leeds College of Music under the direction of 'outstanding lyric tenor' Paul Nilon. Lucia has had a great interest in classical music since the tender age of eleven when she took up singing lessons with Diana Pocock M.A.

Lucia's starred in her first operatic role in her final year at Performing Arts College playing Carmen in Bizet's opera 'Carmen'. In January 2008 Lucia performed a recital after winning the Hull Music Recital Clubs Ursula Follet Bursary, a prestigious award for which there is strong competition. At music college Lucia has performed leading roles in 'Ten Belles and No Husband' by Franz Von Suppe (Sidonia) at The Venue, Leeds and'The Marriage of Figaro' by Mozart (Countess) at The Northern Ballet Theatre, Leeds conducted by John Longstaff. In her second year Lucia was awarded The Rotary Club of Leeds Donald Webster Memorial Prize and scholarship.

Lucia has performed the soprano solo in Handel's Messiah at Leeds Town Hall, The Venue, Leeds and Wakefield Cathedral. Lucia has also taken part in many masterclasses, working with the likes of Lynne Dawson, Graham Trew and Donald Maxwell.

Lucia enjoys very much singing as part of a choir or ensemble. Lucia has sung with East Riding County Choir, Beverley Chamber Choir, Yorkshire Youth Choir, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, Leeds College of Music Chamber Choir and is currently a member of Leeds based Chamber Ensemble, 'Ecclesia'.

Lucia thoroughly enjoys singing all genres of classical music and sings for weddings, funerals, private parties and events. Lucia also teaches singing privately and in performing arts school, 'Artista'. Lucia aims to study further as a classical singer, with the hopes of a career as a professional classical soprano.
