Northern Bloc Party!
The Northern Bloc Collective is a music/arts collective based in Leeds comprising Leeds College of Music students and alumni focused on promoting experimental and contemporary music at an affordable price.
The NBC Autumn Season opens at The Packhorse in Leeds on Wednesday 11 November and features TLMEnsemble (pictured) and Omnivore plus a new NBC Commission.
TLMEnsemble is a new duo whose pieces focus as much on sound textures as on melodic and harmonic content. Influenced equally by sources rooted in classical music, jazz and New York electronica artists, TLMEnsemble combine acoustic and electronic instruments in their improvisations. Sounds range from conventional bass clarinet and piano to effect-layered bassoon reeds and electric sounds. www.myspace.com/tlmensemble
Following this will be the second of our NBC Commissions, this time pitching Saxophone, Bass and Piano together in the form of Bardon/Macnaughton/Richards.
Last, but by no means least, are Omnivore (formerly known as Deathqunt), comprising Tom Lumley (2008 Dave Cooper Saxophone Prize Winner), Craig Scott (2008 Plectrum Guitar Prize Winner) and Joost Hendrickx (LIMA, Dave Kane's Rabbit Project). Omnivore has been described by Jazzwise as making ''Acoustic Ladyland sound like Jamiroquai"
