Launch Your Career!
On Saturday 5 June (10am - 5pm) the Knowledge Transfer Unit will be hosting a day of workshops looking at various aspects of launching a career in the music industry.
The day will offer advice, tips, networking opportunities and a chance to have 1-to-1 mentor sessions with advisors from the Knowledge Transfer Mentor Bank.
The Knowledge Transfer Unit run a range of enterprise and innovation events throughout the year.
This event is FREE and is open to current Leeds College of Music Students, alumni and early career musicians living in Yorkshire.
The day will kick off with a session led by Alan Raw from BBC Raw Talent focusing on getting your music out there and learning how to make the most of the local scene in Leeds and Yorkshire. Rich Huxley, our social media guru, (
http://thehuxcapacitor.wordpress.com/ ) will then follow this up with a master class on how online media and social networking can be used to promote your music to a wider audience.
Individuals and groups can sign up for a 1-to-1 mentoring session with Rich Huxley, Angie Ayre (Accountant — specialist in advising musicians
www.ayreandco.co.uk ) and Emma Scott (Radio expert/band management/media training) to discuss future business plans, finance and promotion.
The highlight of the afternoon will be a Demo Doctor session where musicians can submit demos to be critiqued by a panel made up of music producers and promoters.
The day will conclude with a networking event for all attendees and presenters. It will be a chance to chat with the speakers and make new connections with local musicians over a (complimentary!) glass of wine or a beer.
