The nominations for the 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Awards have recently been announced and feature a number of Leeds College of Music staff, students and alumni. Jazz alumna and the College's current Senior Lecturer in Jazz, Dr Kathy Dyson, is nominated in the 'Jazz Educator' category. At the College, Kathy teaches jazz improvisation, jazz guitar, composition, music psychology, dissertation, research and music industry modules and learns as much from the students as they do from her. The acclaimed 'trioVD' - alumnus Chris Sharkey, tutor Dr Christophe de Bezenac and third year BA Jazz student Chris Bussey - is nominated in the 'Jazz Ensemble' category. This category also sees a nomination for alumna Nikki Iles for her work with The Printmakers and Norma Winstone. The awards are sponsored by music licensing company PPL and Jazz Services and feature nine categories, Jazz Musician of the Year, Jazz CD of the Year, Jazz Ensemble of the Year, Jazz Venue of the Year, Jazz Journalist of the Year, Jazz Broadcaster of the Year, Jazz Publication of the Year, Jazz Education Award, and the Services to Jazz Award.
