Leeds College of Music presents a rare opportunity this October to hear two legendary giants of the saxophone in a two-day festival of masterclasses and concerts.   Peter King and Jerry Bergonzi are amongst an elite group of world-class players on their respective instruments and are amongst the best sax players not just of this era, but of all time.  Jerry Bergonzi Bluebonics Trio Friday 29 October 2010 The Venue, Leeds College of Music Workshop: 3.00pm - 5.00pm Concert: 7.30pm Jerry Bergonzi (sax) Dave Santoro (bass) Andrea Michelutti (drums) Tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi is an internationally recognised jazz performer, composer and author. His music is renowned for its innovation, mastery, awesome technique and lyricism. His music has been applauded throughout the world at festivals and in concert halls and jazz venues. He worked for a number of years with the great Dave Brubeck, firstly performing with Two Generations of Brubeck and then later he joined the Dave Brubeck Quartet, with whom he toured the world.  He has worked and recorded with world-class artists including Gerry Mulligan, Hal Galper, Eddie Gomez. Bill Evans, Dave Santoro and Steve Swallow, to name but a few. www.jerrybergonzi.com Peter King Quartet Saturday 30 October 2010 The Venue, Leeds College of Music Workshop: 3.00pm - 5.00pm Concert: 7.30pm Peter King (sax) Steve Melling (piano) Geoff Gascoyne (bass) Martin Drew (drums) In a career spanning five decades, Peter King has been a major influence on the British Jazz scene and has long been considered one of the world’s greatest alto saxophonists.  He exploded onto the British jazz scene at the age of 19 performing at the opening of Ronnie Scott’s Club.  Although he now concentrates on his work as a solo artist, King has played with many jazz greats including Bud Powell, Red Rodney, The Ray Charles Orchestra, Lalo Schifrin, Philly Joe Jones, Phil Woods and Elvin Jones. The list of musical legends he has worked with is daunting - from Tony Bennett to James Brown, Lauren Bacall to Marlene Deitrich.
