Alumni Sean Foran and Kari Blevik launch debut album with tour of Australia

Vehere is a new trio comprising of acclaimed Australian pianist/composer Sean Foran, Norwegian, UK-based vocalist Kari Blevik and Belgian clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst. Sean and Kari are alumni of Leeds College of Music. The trio formed in late 2008 after Sean and Kari decided to put together a group to perform new music while Sean was located in Leeds studying an MA in Jazz at the College. An obvious choice was the clarinet player Joachim Badenhorst, who Sean had worked with previously in Canada. The initial chemistry at shows and recordings in the UK in October 2008 was stunning. The trio draw upon their various cultural influences to create music that conjures up sounds of Scandinavian folk music, contemporary improvised music, and a range of jazz, world, folk traditions and ideas. Their debut album Unravelling, recorded in the UK in February 2009, features new compositions by the award winning composer Sean Foran plus thoughtful re-imaginings of music by Nick Drake, Swedish folk songs and obscure jazz standards. The album is released in Australia, Norway and the UK in late 2009 and the trio will be touring Australia in December 2009 to support the release. The album is released on New Market Music, Australia's leading independant jazz label. The tour is supported by the Arts Council Norway. www.veheremusic.info www.myspace.com/vehere
