Peter Whitfield


BMus, MMus, Diploma, Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Rome)

Peter was educated at the Royal College of Music, where he studied the piano with Maria Donska, and at Edinburgh University, where he studied composition with Kenneth Leighton.  While at Edinburgh he was awarded the Tovey memorial prize for composition, the Gwen Clutterbuck bursary, the Richard Brown scholarship and the Fraser scholarship for post-graduate study.

Peter subsequently studied composition with Goffredo Petrassi at Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Rome), studied the piano privately with Paul Hamburger and gained an MMus from Leeds University.His specialist areas include Composition, 19th and 20th Century Opera, and the composers Luigi Dallapiccola and Jean Sibelius.

Career highlights included having his compositions performed at the universities of Edinburgh, Nottingham and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and being selected as an East Midlands Arts young artist as a piano accompanist.
