Jesse Bannister

Jesse Bannister was born in London in 1971 to an Indian Mother and an English Father. He came to Leeds in 1992 to undertake a Graduate Diploma in Jazz (with Honours) at Leeds College of Music.

Jesse Bannister is a very unique musician, in that Jesse plays North Indian Classical Music on the saxophone to a professional level. During his study Jesse became interested in Indian Music through his study with the UK’s renowned sitarist Dharambir Singh.

A multi-instrumentalist, Jesse has performed on stages throughout the world playing saxophone, piano, flute, cajon, udu and congas. Jesse is also a composer, producer, promoter and dance/theatre accompanist with a wide range of musical and technical skills.

As a performer Jesse has worked with The Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, The City of London Sinfonia, Mercury music prize-winner Talvin Singh, Grammy winner Sukhwinder Singh, Khatak dance duo Sonia Sabri and the Hallé Orchestra.

Jesse Bannister has taught on the degree programme at Leeds College of Music for over a decade.
