How to apply for Undergraduate CUKAS Courses

The following undergraduate courses must be applied for through CUKAS:

- BA (Hons) Jazz (210F)
- BA (Hons) Music (200F)

What is CUKAS?

The Conservatoires UK Admissions Service (CUKAS) is an online application service for Leeds College of Music and six of the other major music conservatoires in the UK, which together comprise Conservatoires UK (CUK).

Further information about CUKAS and how to apply is available at www.cukas.ac.uk

Monday to Friday 8.30am – 6.00pm

What are the benefits?

You can apply to up to six conservatoires simultaneously for music courses, via one online application.

You can check the progress of your application, accept offers and confirm decisions online. With your unique username and password created when
you register with CUKAS, you can work on your application online at any time.

When can I start applying?

For entry in 2010, you will need first to register your details online with CUKAS and then you can start creating your online application from July 2009
– 1 October 2009, when all on-time applications must have been submitted.

You may still apply between October 2009 and 31 August 2010 and whilst applications made during this period are regarded as ‘late’ and institutions
are not required to consider them, the College will normally do so.

How to apply through CUKAS

If you are applying through CUKAS the code for Leeds College of Music is LCM L31.

Composition students are required to play an instrument in ensembles as part of their course, and therefore require a performance audition.

Please indicate via the drop-down menu on the CUKAS form which instrument you will play in your performance audition. Then please write as the first line of your Personal Statement: "I am applying for First Study Composition." Your application will then be considered for Composition.

If you have any queries about this please contact Course Enquiries, enquiries@lcm.ac.uk or 0113 2223416 and leave your name and telephone number.

When you have completed your online application you must submit it electronically to CUKAS with the application fee of £15 (2009 level). The fee may be subject to change for 2010 entry.

The forms for references must be sent to your two designated referees who should complete these as soon as possible and send them direct to the College.

As the College does not audition every applicant, the fees paid to CUKAS do not include the Leeds College of Music audition fee. If invited for audition you will be requested to pay the fee of £40.00 (2009 level) per audition prior to your audition date. The fee may be subject to change for 2010 entry.

Change of Instrument Request

Aapplicants should be advised that if they wish to change their main study instrument on their application form they should contact the HE Admissions Department at Leeds College of Music with the details.

Please email HEAdmissions@lcm.ac.uk with the change of instrument request. Admissions will capture the change of instrument on the applicant's front sheet and any other relevant documentation.

Confirmation of Offers

If you have been made a conditional offer, the final stage in the selection process is when we receive your examination results in August 2010.

If you are holding a guaranteed conditional offer, and you have met the conditions of the offer, your place will be confirmed automatically via CUKAS.

If you are holding a reserve conditional offer and have met the conditions of the offer, the College will decide whether or not it is able to confirm your place after it has reviewed all the guaranteed offer results and is confident as to any places remaining available.

If you have been made a reserve unconditional offer, the College will decide whether or not it is able to confirm your place after it has reviewed all the guaranteed offer results and is confident as to places remaining available.

If you have not met the conditions and have a guaranteed or reserve offer, you may still be offered a place on your chosen course. Please contact the Senior Admissions and Enrolment Officer (HE) on 0113 222 3420 for the final decision. Email HEAdmissions@lcm.ac.uk

The following information applies to courses within both UCAS and CUKAS:

Auditions and Interviews for all courses

If you are called for an audition or interview, you should ensure we receive the fee by the date specified in your offer of audition/interview letter and make every effort to attend. You must let us know well in advance if you are unable to attend on the designated day and we will endeavour to re-arrange the audition. If you live some distance away, you can contact our Student Welfare Advisor for details of overnight accommodation. Please note that we do not interview/audition every applicant but no applicant will be made an offer without being auditioned or interviewed.

Clearing

The College operates a Clearing Helpline through August and September to help both UCAS and CUKAS applicants who have not secured a place on a course. Details will be available on our website and in the national press.

If you require additional information about courses, please contact the Course Enquiries Team on 0113 222 3416 or by emailing enquiries@lcm.ac.uk

Direct Entry and Applications to transfer from another institution

Applications can be considered for entry directly into the second year of undergraduate courses. You must have completed the first year of a related course already and covered sufficient material to ensure that you will be able to make a smooth transition when you embark on your studies with us. Under no circumstances can we accept new students into the third year of any undergraduate course at the College.

Please note that you must be a current student to apply for a transfer. If you have already withdrawn from a course or left the institution at which you were studying, you will have to submit a new application for entry into the first year via UCAS/CUKAS.

If you think you are eligible for a Course Transfer, please contact the Course Enquiries Team on 0113 222 3416 to discuss your position
