Helen Reid

Helen Reid first came to public attention when she reached the Keyboard finals of the BBC Young Musician of the year. She has given recitals at venues including the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Fairfield Halls and Blackheath Halls, London, St. George’s, Bristol, Cheltenham, the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and the Aldeburgh and Buxton Festivals. In addition, she was invited to Jordan to give a recital in honour of a new EU/Jordanian agreement in the presence of the Prime Minister, and has performed in Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, following success in the Anglo-Czech competition. In 2006 she was named a ‘rising star’ in The Independent.

Helen studied at Chetham’s School, Royal Holloway University and Cologne Music College, completing a Master’s Degree at City University and the Guildhall School of Music. She is currently teaching piano on the BA Music course at Leeds College of Music. She also teaches at Trinity College of Music Junior Department and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has been invited to give masterclasses at Hull University, Dartington International Summer School and Pro Corda.

Helen is in demand as a chamber musician, as well as a soloist and has recently collaborated with artists such as soprano Gillian Keith, violinists Tamsin Waley-Cohen, Miriam Kramer and Fenella Humphreys, recorder virtuoso Jill Kemp and clarinettist Catriona Scott. She regularly performs with cellist Sheida Davis, is a member of Trio D’Art with Paul Archibald and John Kenny and is a founding member of the London Pleyel Piano Trio.

A keen advocate of contemporary music, Helen has worked with many composers including Cecilia McDowall, Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews and Robert Saxton. Future plans include solo and chamber recitals around Britain, the world premiere of David Matthews’ piano concerto, Rhapsody in Blue at Blackheath Halls and Rachmaninov’s 2nd piano concerto with the Westmoreland Orchestra, as well as recitals at St.George’s Bristol, Cambridge and York with new group Counterpoise.
