Brian Morrell is Senior Lecturer in Music Production at Leeds College of Music.
Brian has written extensively for TV, Film and Theatre. During his continuing professional career as a piano player, composer and arranger, Brian has played a role in some of the most successful shows staged, including ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Chess’ & ‘Aspects of Love’.
After studying on the Jazz course at Leeds College of Music, Brian spent 2 years on the Cunard QE2 as pianist, trombonist and staff arranger. He has worked as a session musician and arranger for some of the 20th Century’s top pop figures, including Elton John, the Eurythmics, Sting, Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Kate Bush, Gloria Gaynor, to name only a few.
He has lectured in music theory, composing, arranging, piano playing and history at many different colleges in London and the north. Over the past few years the bulk of Brian’s work has come from lecturing, orchestration and session work. Brian divides his time between writing, playing and lecturing commitments in London and Yorkshire.
In 2009 Brian composed music for two films – ‘The Appointment’ and ‘It’s All Happening’, by acclaimed director Stefan Gordon. Brian achieved a first class Masters Degree in 2009 and is currently writing a book entitled ‘How Music for TV and Film Communicates’.
