The Course

New members are welcome to join the orchestra from Tuesday 25 April for the remainder of the year until Friday 9 June. The discounted fee to enrol from April is £85.

A lively and friendly ensemble for classical musicians who are a minimum of grade 6 (strings/brass) and grade 8 (woodwind) standard.  The Orchestra brings together people from all over the Yorkshire region who share a love of playing orchestral music, performing three concerts per academic year as part of the Leeds College of Music Concert Season.  Running from September - June, the Community Orchestra meets for weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals under the leadership of conductor Ben Crick.

For the late spring/summer term, the orchestra will be working on the following repertoire which they will perform in their concert on Friday 9 June at St Edmund's Church in Roundhay:

Beethoven, Coriolan Overture
Dvořák, Cello Concerto
Schubert, Symphony No.8 "Unfinished"

New members are very welcome, and we recruit throughout the year where we have spaces available. We are particularly keen to hear from string, percussion and brass players.  The required standard is grade 6 or above (strings/brass) or grade 8 (woodwind).

An audition will be required if there is demand for places. If you are a woodwind or brass player interested in joining the Community Orchestra, please contact us at shortcourses@lcm.ac.uk before you enrol.  We will advise you as to whether you will need to audition.  String players will not need a formal audition.

If you are interested in attending a taster session before committing to the full year, you are welcome to attend the first rehearsal free of charge to see if the orchestra is suitable for you.  Please email shortcourses@lcm.ac.uk if you would like to attend, and we will let the conductor know to expect you.  If you decide to join as a member, the first term will be used to discreetly and informally assess your suitability for the level of the orchestra.
