The Course

We’re pleased to collaborate once more with our friends at Greenmount Studios for a weekend masterclass in creative mixing and mastering, learning about both analogue and digital techniques in a sought-after professional studio. This course will exclusively take place at Greenmount Recording Studios in Leeds, led by producers and mix engineers Lee Smith and Jamie Lockhart whose credits include: The Cribs, Pulled Apart by Horses, Submotion Orchestra and many more.

You will be mixing existing, unmixed recordings of established bands and learning in a hands-on way by experimenting with new and old techniques using a variety of modern and vintage equipment. (Greenmount have the original tape machine used to record Bohemian Rhapsody). The weekend will end with a workshop in mastering, starting to address how to use compression, limiting and EQ to produce professional mastered material.

The course fee reflects the very small numbers on the course; students will benefit from a tailored and in-depth experience.

Examples of activities will include:

Analog mixing - mixing from stems off 2” tape using analog outboard and analog reverberation/echo techniques only.  Hybrid mixing – mixing from the computer using both analog and software processing.  The weekend will end with a workshop in Mastering where the group will start to understand how to use compression, limiting and EQ to produce professional mastered material.

Jamie and Lee are amongst some of the most generous musicians and producers out there and we’re delighted to have them involved with Leeds College of Music and our Short Courses.
