The MA Music Production is a taught vocational postgraduate programme aimed at students seeking to specialise in the study of music production and related fields.
The course has two specialist pathways:
Studio Production
Working closely with a supervisor, you will undertake a range of projects in production, tailored to your professional interests. You will be encouraged to develop a challenging and innovative portfolio of recordings, which will be assessed at different stages of the course. Postgraduate producers receive workshop support sessions in production techniques and are given opportunities to work with musicians across other Leeds College of Music programmes.
Composition
You will receive regular tuition from one of the College’s experienced composers as you prepare a portfolio of original compositions. The MA course culminates in the production of a substantial commissioned work that will receive a public performance. Postgraduate composers receive support sessions in compositional techniques as part of their studies.
Both pathways culminate in the production of a substantial commissioned work that will receive a public performance at the end of the course.
All MA production students undertake an industry placement as part of their studies along with studies in critical evaluation, followed by pathway specific seminars in subjects such as sound morphology, live arts and recording cultures.
Assessment
Assessment is by coursework portfolio, examination or performance, dependent on your chosen specialist pathway.
Admission Requirements
You will require a good first degree in Music, or its equivalent.
