“I started playing bass when I was 18 and really wanted to get into music but I had no way of meeting other musicians or idea about how to get into the Leeds music scene. I applied to Leeds College of Music to meet like minded individuals and start playing. I’ve learnt so much since joining the course. The theory has given me insight and guidance into the composition of music and song writing, and I’ve learnt to be confident in my playing. I now play bass in a band with people I’ve met at College and we’ve performed at loads of venues in Leeds.”

“Leeds College of Music has a really good atmosphere with lots of friendly people. The tutors are approachable and although the course can be challenging at times, if you get your head down you will be fine. In Leeds there are lots of places to go out and hear live music. I find there are loads of people who have similar tastes to communicate with and it’s nice to get together and go out!”

I’m doing a BTEC Classical Music course but I also like a mixture of different music from Drum & Bass to indie and rock, and Leeds has loads of places to see live music. I enjoy living in Leeds and the College is a stones throw away from the centre of town so handy for shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.”

“The College is a really nice place to be and you are treated like an adult. You learn the skills which are important, things you need to know. You can offer your own experiences as well as learning new ones. I enjoy the fact you are left to work at your own pace. However, you are not in a position where things become too relaxed, where you don’t want to work.”
