Music Foundation Programme (Music Technology)

1 Year: Foundation Course

Students without the required GCSEs or musical attainment for admission to BTEC Level 3 National programmes are  encouraged to apply  for this course.

The Music Foundation Programme (Music Technology) is designed to help students to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology or the workplace.

The course consists of two main qualifications.

From September to December learners will undertake a Foundation Learning course consisting of a BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate (where they will be given the opportunity to improve both their practical and theoretical skills through subjects such as: Sound Recording, Midi Sequencing, Music Theory, Aural, Musicianship, Music Industry), Personal and Social  Development, and Functional Skills (in Maths, English and ICT).

Subject to satisfactory performance, students will progress on to a BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Music in January and continue on this until the end of the course in June, along with any relevant Functional Skills.

Admission Requirements

The minimum age at the time of enrolment for Further Education courses is normally 16 as stated in the Edexcel Programme  Specifications. There is no upper age limit on entry.

Qualifications

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade D or above, which should normally include English Language. Applicants will normally be  asked  to demonstrate some basic knowledge of music technology/sound recording applications.

Interview

You will be expected to attend an interview and complete a short music technology test. If English is not your first language you  must have a British Council English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.5
