Music Foundation Programme (Music Technology)

1 Year: Foundation Course

Students without the required GCSES for admission to BTEC national programmes are encouraged to apply for this course.

Designed to help progress on to a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate, students will learn the fundamentals of both Music and Music Technology. Subjects covered include: Sound Recording, Midi Sequencing, Music Theory, Aural, Musicianship, Music Industry, Study Skills and Key Skills.

The course consists of two qualifications. From September to December learners will take a BTEC Introductory Certificate Performing Arts (please be aware that Performing Arts is a broad term and allows for a Music Technology specialism within). Subject to satisfactory performance, learners will progress on to a BTEC First Diploma (Music Technology) in January and continue on this until the end of the course in June.

Admission Requirements


Minimum Age

The minimum age at the time of enrolment for Further Education courses is normally 16 as stated in the Edexcel Programme Specifications. There is no upper age limit on entry.

Qualifications

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade D or above, which should normally include English Language. Applicants will normally be asked to demonstrate some basic knowledge of music technology/sound recording applications.

Interview

You will be expected to attend an interview and complete a short music technology test. If English is not your first language you must have a British Council English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.5
