Danny Cope

  • Curriculum Leader for Popular Music

  • Danny’s first instrument is Bass Guitar although he frequently performs and writes on the guitar and piano

  • He also works as Staff Composer for Universal Publishing Production Music, and is an Apple Accredited Logic Trainer.

  • In previous guises he has been a session bass player, has released four self-produced solo albums, has worked as a freelance music journalist, and has written the books ‘Righting Wrongs in Writing Songs’ and ‘Everything You Need to Know about Setting Up a Bedroom Studio’.


Adam Martin

  • Curriculum Coordinator for Popular Music

  • Adam is the recipient of a PhD Scholarship from the University of Hull where he is conducting interdisciplinary research employing phenomenological and musicological research methods to explore the role of music producers in the twenty-first century

  • He is a founding member of the electronic ensemble, ‘Nightports’, who have had works played at international conferences and festivals as well as being featured on several compilations and blogs.

  • Adam also plays guitar and bass for a variety of different ensembles and continues to be an active performer.


Kari Nergaard Bleivik

  • Principal Lecturer on the Pop pathway

  • Kari is a founding member of Leeds Improvised Music Association and has performed with a range of projects like LIMA Orchestra, Sonic Stories, Røyst, Sharkestra, Tommy Evans Orchestra and Vehere.

  • She has released 3 albums with different bands, her latest record deal being with major Australian jazz label NewMarket Music.

  • She has also written commission music for several festivals and delivered vocal workshops at institutions such as Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, The Nordic Institute for Stage and Studio (NISS) in Oslo and Harare Jazz Festival.


Stuart McCallum

  • Principal Lecturer in Guitar

  • Best known as the guitarist for Cinematic Orchestra, Stuart has toured worldwide with the band and played on and contributed to the writing of the albums, Ma Fleur, Live at the Royal Albert Hall and the award winning Disney soundtrack, The Crimson Wing.

  • Stuart has also released four solo albums, written commissions for Arts Council England, The British Council and for UK saxpohonist, John Surman, as part of the Manchester Jazz Festival.
