BA (Hons) Music (Popular)

Ten years ago, we became the first UK conservatoire to deliver a specialist degree course in Popular Music and our established links with industry give our students the opportunity to enter the professional world before they graduate.

This highly practical degree course will support your development into a specialist performer.

Focus is placed on developing technical proficiency and artistry, as well as enhancing compositional, musicological and critical listening skills.

Please Note - We are no longer accepting applications from Drums, Guitar or Vocal specialists (performers) for our Popular and Classical/Jazz/Production with Popular pathways for September 2017 entry.  We would particularly welcome applications from Keyboards and Bass Guitar specialists (performers).
We are still accepting applications to our Songwriting pathway, all instruments.


One-to-one Tuition

You’ll learn one-to-one with experts in your specialism such as Danny Cope, Adam Martin, Kari Nergaard Bleivik and Stuart McCallum.

You'll also receive regular masterclasses from illustrious musicians and record labels.

Facilities Open Until 3am

Our industry-standard studios and practice rooms are open until 3am in term-time, and by attending the only English conservatoire to hold the coveted All-Steinway status you will be practicing and performing on Steinway pianos.

During you degree you will also have access to our music library that contains more than 10,000 CDs, 8,000 LPs and 18,000 items of printed music.
