BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma

Music Technology 90-credit Diploma

WHY BTEC LEVEL 3 90-CREDIT DIPLOMA?

This 90-Credit Diploma in Music Technology is available for those who want to study for only one year. This will be because either you already have AS qualifications and some UCAS points, or you just want to do a one year course.

Available in Music Technology the 90-credit Diploma lets you study a broad and stimulating curriculum consisting of a variety of units that are appropriate to your specialism and truly relevant to the modern music industry.

This course is not suitable for international students who would require a Tier 4 visa to study with us.

Music Technology: THE COURSE

This non performance-based course gives you a thorough and up-to-date grounding in music technology, with a focus on using technology to capture, manipulate and produce music.

You will explore areas such as live sound, sound recording, sequencing, and mixing and mastering. Although practical skills development is a core aspect of the course, you will spend time learning to use music software in a variety of contexts and develop your understanding of the history of music technology and production. The course also involves a fair amount of written and theoretical work often connected to researching and writing reports, or preparing and presenting information.  You will learn about the music industry itself and develop skills and knowledge which prepare you for professional life.

Assessment is done through periodic coursework, projects and set tasks.  You will attend lessons 3 to 4 days per week.

The BTEC 90-credit Diploma carries up to 210 UCAS points (dependent on the grade).

YOUR FUTURE

This one year BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma is designed as a standalone course. If you have chosen to apply and study on this, we would not normally expect you to continue beyond that single year.  If you should for any reason wish to request to stay and 'top up' to the larger Extended Diploma by taking a further year's study, you will be required to apply for this separately, and there may be cost implications depending on your age. Please ask for more information if this is something you might consider.

If you choose to continue your studies in music at undergraduate level, the 90-credit Diploma will have given you a valuable headstart!

Please ensure that you check entry requirements for any HE courses you may wish to subsequently apply for.  We accept no liability for a failure to meet such entry requirements.  The BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma carries a limited number of UCAS points which, depending on the grade achieved, may not be sufficient to meet entry requirements for HE study.  If you intend to combine existing AS or A Level UCAS points with those from the 90-credit Diploma you should also check that this will meet the particular entry requirements of any HE institution you may wish to apply to.

If you decide not to continue with music, there is no reason why you could not move on to Higher Education in another area – like all recognised Level 3 qualifications, the Diploma gives you UCAS points and a skillset relevant to a wide range of study and work.
