Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is underpinned by pedagogical need and the conservatoire’s learning and teaching strategy. Development is also informed through student consultation via the Student’s Union and the Staff-Student forum. LCoM has a VLE system with Moodle at the centre and includes the following integrated systems:
All modules are supported by pages within the VLE where students are provided with supportive resource environments. Learning materials (such as handouts, readings, research resources, audio and video tutorials) are placed into a context in that supports their studies outside of the class environment.
Beyond providing learning resources, the VLE systems, integrated with the student records system, have enabled full Electronic Management of Assessment (EMA). Technology is used to ensure the learning outcomes of the module can be demonstrated fully; whether via ePortfolio, video evidence, written assessment or audio recordings. All formal assessment feedback is provided using the VLE and in relevant disciplines audio or video feedback is used. This project has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2016.
The specialist nature of the courses offered at LCoM has encouraged the development of a wide range of TEL initiatives and projects including:
