Paul Wilkinson

Lecturer

Paul Wilkinson lectures in piano and composition at Leeds College of Music. He is a pianist, composer, and teacher specialising in jazz and classical music.

Paul was runner-up in the Perrier Jazz Musician of the Year Awards in 1999, and earned his MMus from Leeds College of Music in 2002. He has published an extensive range of piano tuition books for students at all levels, and released over ten albums.

As a composer and performer, Paul is active on both sides of the Atlantic.

2011 saw a collaborative first in which Paul co-wrote a children’s musical with his wife, Sarah. ‘Back to Normal’ (which follows a group of young friends on a seaside trip with a difference) premiered at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London's West End, and is now performed widely by schools and youth theatres. In March 2014, Paul will premiere a new work specifically written for the Airedale Symphony Orchestra – a leading community orchestra from Paul’s home region in Yorkshire.

Paul has composed a wide range of solo, ensemble and choral works, and his latest symphony is due to premier in New York in 2014, where he is also one of ten international advisers with the New York Classical Music society.
