Mark Fitton

Lecturer in Piano

Mark Fitton began piano lessons at the age of 6 and attended Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester.  On leaving Chetham’s at the age of 18, he was jointly awarded the keyboard prize, and went on to continue his studies at the RNCM with Marjorie Clementi and Vlado Perlemuter, himself a pupil of Ravel.

Mark gained both the RNCM’s Graduate diploma and also the Diploma in Professional Performance, the highest performance award offered by that conservatoire.

An experienced performer, Mark Fitton has appeared both as soloist and accompanist in this country and abroad, and also as chamber pianist, particularly as a member of the Chandos Piano Quartet.

Mark now focuses on his piano teaching work, both here at LCoM, and in his own private practice where many of his pupils have gone on to study music full time at such places as the Royal Academy of Music, and Oxford and York Universities.

Several of Mark’s articles on various aspects of piano teaching have appeared in Music Teacher magazine, and Mark has also given lectures and workshops for the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA).
