KAREN GOURLAY

Head of Short Courses

Karen Gourlay (MMus, MSc, BA (Hons),  PGCE) is the Head of Short Courses. The Short Courses team run a range of short courses throughout the year, including summer schools, community music ensembles and the Saturday Music School.
 
Karen has a first class honours degree in music and was awarded a distinction for her MMus in composition. She has recently completed an MSc in Technology Enhanced Learning.

Before taking up the role of Head of Short Courses, she was a Senior Lecturer at LCoM and a specialist flute teacher at Yorkshire Young Musicians.

As a composer, she is a former winner of the Yorkshire Composers' Competition. Her work has been broadcast on Radio 3 and performed internationally, including performances at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Sydney Festival, the Royal College of Music, and the USA (Washington D.C., Chicago, San Diego and Las Vegas). Her work is published by Forton Music and Tectractys Publishing.
 
A keen flute player, Karen plays piccolo, flute, alto and bass flutes.
