Alumni & External Library Membership

Who is eligible?

The following people are eligible to register as Outside Borrowers with the LCoM Library:

  • Fellows & Honorary Members of the LCoM and the predecessor institution LCM and members of staff who have retired in post (Honorary Outside Borrowers - no charge, standard rate only)

  • Retired members of staff can apply to become an Honorary External Borrower. This would be granted on application to, and approval by the Principal in conjunction with the Head of LETs.

  • Former students of the LCOM who have completed their studies, on payment of a subscription as detailed below. (Wherever possible the library staff will try to verify the eligibility of an applicant; however in the case of alumni of the LCM, the applicant may be required to show proof of his / her eligibility to register as an outside borrower.)  If a former student is in default to the Library or has been a persistent defaulter in the past, the Librarian reserves the right to refuse to allow registration as an outside borrower.

  • Former members of staff will have borrowing rights on payment of a subscription fee as detailed below. (Wherever possible the library staff will try to verify the eligibility of an applicant; however in the case of staff of the former institution, LCM, the applicant may be required to show proof of his / her eligibility to register as an external borrower.)  If a former member of staff is in default to the Library or has been a persistent defaulter in the past, the Head of LETs reserves the right to refuse to allow registration as an outside borrower.

  • Community music ensembles in the Yorkshire region (Higher Membership rate only)


Membership Types:

Standard Membership Higher Membership

A £30 standard membership is available to alumni and former staff and includes:

  • The loan of up to 10 general lending items – books and music
  • The loan of up to 5 Audio-visual items- CDs and DVDs
  • The use of listening, viewing and reference facilities in the library
  • An access card for the library
  • Reminder / overdue notices sent by email
  • Telephone and online renewals service
  • Guest access to electronic resources in the Conservatoire library by appointment only.

£50 higher membership includes:

All of the addressed points within the standard membership, and borrowing rights for up to 5 orchestra, band or choral sets, provided that the sets:

  • are not required for use within the Conservatoire.
  • Has not been designated for Conservatoire use only.

Excluded (both categories)

► Loan of short loan and 7 day loan items

► Interlibrary loans or Hire

► Placing reservations on items out on loan

► Requests for the purchase of items for library
    stock

► Access to the Conservatoire computers via an
    LCoM logon
