Support the Skyline Music Library this #givingtuesday

Leeds College of Music has joined #givingtuesday in a bid to raise final funds for the forthcoming Skyline Music Library at Quarry Hill. The project, which is currently 90% funded, will dramatically increase learning resources for students and will also open to the public, contributing to the city’s creative resources.

What is #givingtuesday?
#givingtuesday, which takes place on Tuesday 29 November, is a simple initiative to encourage businesses and individuals to donate to charities and non-profit organisations. The day follows the sales boom of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging people to take action for a good cause during the festive season. Last year, the initiative raised a staggering £6,000 a minute for UK charities.

Skyline Music Library

The new music library has received support from both HEFCE and the Wolfson Foundation, and the conservatoire bids to raise final funds through donations from amongst its wider community of staff, alumni and supporters. In return for funds donated to the library, supporters are offered the opportunity to have their name added to a prominent supporter’s wall within the space, to acknowledge their contribution.
The new music library will include LCoM’s huge vinyl archive and sheet music collection, as well as; a new first floor mezzanine to promote student learning, staff offices, quiet and meeting rooms, breakout spaces, I.T., and communications facilities. It will also free up space within the main LCoM Quarry Hill campus for additional rehearsal and teaching spaces.
In addition to this, the library will also become a flagship music resource for the city of Leeds. Opening up its impressive facilities and prestigious jazz archives to the public, LCoM’s new development will further contribute to the city’s cultural resources.
All materials used in the re-development will be sustainably sourced. The use of natural light will be maximised and integral to the overall design approach.
