Besbrode Piano competition

Partnership creates classical music showcase opportunity

In an exciting joint initiative, Leeds College of Music and Besbrode Pianos have curated a piano competition for conservatoire students, with the main prize being a paid engagement to showcase the winner’s talent.

Sponsored by the Leeds based piano specialists, the classical music competition has already gone through to the semi-finals, with Joshua Kelly (postgraduate student) and Frank Zikos (BMus, 2nd year) having been chosen for the final on Sunday 7th December.

For the event, the two degree level students will be performing an array of works by masters Mozart, Chopin and Gershwin. The repertoire which is chosen by the candidate should demonstrate pianistic versatility (a good balance between lyrical and virtuoso works) and stylistic diversity. The performance of a concerto (or a movement of a concerto) is strongly encouraged but not compulsory. Murray McLachlan, professor for piano at RNCM and Head of Keyboard at Chetham's School of Music will be in attendance to adjudicate and judge.

Performances start at 1:00pm with the adjudication expected around 2.30pm.

Venue: Besbrode Pianos (Unit A), Holbeck New Mills, Braithwaite Street, Leeds LS11 9XE
