We're not the only music organisation in Leeds with a big birthday this year - Live at Leeds hits ten years old, and as part of the celebrations they've partnered with Leeds Digital Festival, to bring a new and exciting aspect to their award-winning event.
After conversations with both teams, and the team at Leeds Dock, LCoM's 'Swimming In...' came about, bringing together digital and musical creativity. The event is the brainchild of Postgraduate and International student Jim Hatch, who has worked closely with the artists and the corporate teams to create an event that fits the waterside location and also the nature of both festivals. Jim works as an event promoter under the name 'Bill Kong', is co-founder and producer of the band Kalyan, and label Kalyan Presents.
At the end of the week-long Lumen Prize Exhibition for Leeds Digital Festival (25-30 April), 'Swimming In...' is an immersive showcase of live electronica and visual art, showcasing emerging artists living and studying in Leeds.
The event is free entry, runs from 6:00-11:00pm, and features;

The duo will be premiering their exclusive collaborative set in advance of releasing an LP together later in the year. Both are members of the ‘8MANA Collective’ who are are spearheading the 'future beats' movement and quickly making Leeds notorious on the Electronic circuit. Influences reach from James Blake and Madlib to Flying Lotus and Floating Points, with a hefty amount of jazz and soul flavour.
Hailing from Leeds, K-LONE has released his music on Badimup, Chord Marauders as well as his own label Wisdom Teeth which he runs with fellow producer Facta. Having just had it’s fourth vinyl release, the labels roster now includes Hodge, Wen, Alex Coulton and more, bringing together elements and grooves from Techno, Grime & Garage. KLone made his debut on Brooklyn NY infamous Reconstrvct night in January of this year and has had mixes on Radar Radio and Rinse FM.
Selfaware algorithm 'Hedge Maze' invites you on a search for the answers within. Having released his debut EP on Lobster Theremin, Hedge Maze brings a very special hardware live set of tightly crafted, hazy, blissedout house and techno.
Oscar Barany is an animator from London who's work combines music with the playfulness of animation, using a range of digital animation techniques to inform his ideas. Oscar has been working as a VJ/visual artist for the past year with clients including DJ’s and jazz bands, showcasing his work in venues across the UK. Using audioreactive technology his work makes music and visual one succinct performance.
Amelia Grace Eve is an artist/film maker from Leicestershire, currently based in Leeds. Her work revolves around socially engaged issues. She uses analogue and digital lens based media to communicate, expressing issues which she is passionate about within an innovative and playful aesthetic.
