Sounds Like THIS is a brand new music festival, launching from 14- 24 March across three of Leeds’ most eclectic venues; Belgrave Music Hall, Arts@Trinity, and The Venue at Leeds College of Music.
Created by Leeds College of Music, Sounds Like THIS will showcase the best in new music. It celebrates acts who take bold new approaches to sound, incorporating electronic, classical, electroacoustic, opera and immersive visual installation, all within one boundary-pushing bill.
Headliners include acclaimed electronic producer and BBC 6Music favourite Rival Consoles, an artist renowned for his thoughtful electronica and atmospheric synth sound. Gabriel Prokofiev returns to Leeds with his extraordinary Nonclassical Club
Night, fusing live classical instruments with electronica in a club setting.
Other artists confirmed include electroacoustic pioneer Elsa Justel, sonic artist and instrument designer Tom Richards and groundbreaking electronic duo A Man Called Adam. The festival will also see a stunning new production of Benjamin Britten’s The Beggars Opera, incorporating contemporary dance and physical theatre. The eclectic line-up of international musicians also includes the next generation of musicians from Leeds College of Music, performing in the annual Gala Concert.
Festival Director and Head of Events at Leeds College of Music Dr Paul Abbott says:
“Sounds Like THIS represents our eclectic, diverse and boundary-pushing approach at Leeds College of Music. We want to create something that both reaches out to and reflects music across the industry, welcoming our whole community to share in the experience. As a champion of musical discovery, we aim to contribute to the rich tapestry of the Leeds music scene – already highlighted by the likes of the North’s leading metropolitan music festival, Live at Leeds.
Leeds is determined to be a modern city – and Sounds Like THIS fits with the dynamic of being brave. This is not just a contemporary music festival, classical showcase or collection of electronic shows - it brings together all of these elements to make a statement of what the future of music sounds like, and it Sounds Like THIS.”
