BBC Radio 1 to play single by Pop student Lucy Whittaker

Third year Pop student Lucy Whittaker will hear her track 'I'm Not Ever Coming Back Again' played on one of the UK's biggest radio stations after it was named BBC Introducing's 'Track of the Week'.

Lucy's single will be played throughout the last week of April by some of BBC Radio 1's top DJs including Greg James, Scott Mills, Clara Amfo, Adele Roberts and Alice Levine.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be played on BBC Radio 1 – the whole thing is quite surreal!" says Lucy.

"This is a massive step forwards for me in my career, and I'm so excited to make the most of any opportunities that might come my way because of this.

"I'll also be really interested to hear people's responses to the track, I'll be on social media all day searching my hashtag #LucyWhittaker to see what people think!"

Lucy wrote 'I'm Not Ever Coming Back Again' alongside Kieran Williams, the keyboard player in her support band, in October last year.

"We took it immediately to the producer, Frankie Harper. Initially the current bridge was the pre-chorus, however we weren't feeling it and decided to switch it up. After some chopping and changing, we ended up with the finished product, which was released in February."

Self-empowerment is a theme throughout 'I'm Not Ever Coming Back' with Lucy revealing the track is "all about having the confidence to stand up to someone who messed you around and to start doing things on your own terms".

And Lucy is definitely starting things on her own terms in 2017; a year which has already seen her undertake a European Tour as part of LCoM Touring, whilst she will also be performing as part of Leeds College of Music's showcase at the Liverpool Sound City Music Festival at the end of May.

You can first hear Lucy and 'I'm Not Ever Coming Back Again' on BBC Radio 1 on Alice Levine's early afternoon show on Saturday 22 April from 1pm - 4pm.
